Collecting the Past
Collecting The Past is a new exhibition at Wallsend’s Segedunum, which looks at how some of the archaeological material from outside Britain that has ended up in four of the local museums of Tyne and Wear ended up in the region.
Over the last 150 years the focus of most local museums has shifted to telling local stories and histories, as access to information on the wider world ha greatly increased.
The funding models have also evolved, with museums no longer being at the mercy of rich donors who could heavily influence the nature and emphasis of the artefacts that were displayed.
This Segedunum exhibition looks at a collection of curios from around the world that have found homes in the North East.
